Was Blind But Now…?
Becoming aware of spiritual blindness

In John Chapter 9, we read about the story of Jesus healing a man who was blind from birth. Upon reaching this man, the disciples asked who sinned to make this man blind, he himself or his parents? Jesus replied that it was neither, but so that God would be glorified.
As we continue, we see that the Pharisees simply could not believe that Jesus did such a miracle.
How often are we like the Pharisees?
The Pharisees could not stand the fact that Jesus was able to perform such "visible" and undeniable miracles. They believed that the messiah would come as a conquering king. As someone who would overthrow the gentile government and set the Jews free from the religious oppression they faced from the government of that time, they thought.
Jesus did accomplish all those things but not in the physical realm. He fulfilled all this in the spiritual realm. He fulfilled the law to allow us to be in intimate fellowship with himself and the Father. That being said, we have to be willing to concede the fact that we cannot always see or understand why God does what he does in His sovereignty. When we go through various trials, they serve as barometers for our spiritual growth.
But how do I know if I am blinded?
First off, you have to be intellectually honest with yourself. If you see reoccurring patterns of failure, broken relationships, accidents, etc. You may have blindness to something in your life. You cannot control what others do, but you can control you reaction to the situations in which you find yourself. 1 Corinthians 11:28-32 talks about taking the Lord's supper and eating and drinking unworthily.
1 Corinthians 11:28-32 NIV
[28] Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. [29] For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. [30] That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. [31] But if we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment. [32] Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be finally condemned with the world.
This applies only to those who claim to be believers. The word is very clear here about not being self deceived and examining one's life in truth. We are in danger of judgement when we reject God's righteousness for our own self-indulgence.
Therefore, we need to seek God for His heart in how it relates to how we live. God is faithful and will reveal all things as we mature in Him. Begin to fervently study God's word and ask Him to reveal our blindness and eradicate our unbelief.
